The Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospital Waterford is a vibrant, academic Eye Department embracing many subspecialty interests within Ophthalmology. Our highly trained and dedicated team of specialist ophthalmologists have expertise in a wide variety of eye conditions.
The ophthalmologists are backed up by a highly trained and qualified team of nurses, technicians and administrators, who continually strive to improve the standard and quality and care delivered for patients.

We provide a regional trauma and Vitreoretinal service and a Medical Retinal service for conditions such as Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and Diabetic Retinopathy.
We have a busy Paediatric Ophthalmology/ Strabismus Service with 2 Paediatric Ophthalmology Consultants and a Clinical Orthoptist. Screening is provided for Retinopathy of Prematurity.
UHW is a regional cancer centre and the Eye Department provides a periocular/lid cancer service with close liaison with Dermatology, Oncology and ENT via the Head & Neck Cancer and Melanoma MDT Groups.
