Ms Emer Henry graduated from University College Dublin Medical school. She undertook basic ophthalmic surgical training in Limerick Regional Hospital and the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, Dublin. She then spent a number of years at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion, Edinburgh in full time research investigating ocular and peripheral blood flow in normal pressure glaucoma for which she was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine (MD).
Ms Henry underwent specialist registrar training in Glasgow and Edinburgh and completed her training in the East Midlands Deanery based at Nottingham University Hospital. During this time Emer undertook specialist training in Glaucoma and Medical Retina and was appointed a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Sherwood Forest Trust. Emer joined the eye department at University Hospital Waterford in 2010.
She is also a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and is responsible for undergraduate ophthalmology teaching in University Hospital Waterford.
